Our small farm, Mountain Ash Farm, is located in Northern Maine between Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield. We are proud to be from Aroostook County, better know in Maine as, “the County”. Our farm is located in the middle of 100 acres of woods. At the top we have cleared several acres, and planted a pasture. It is still a struggle, and we have to lime and heavily seed each spring.
We currently have eight female alpacas will be our foundation females, one herdsire, a Jr. herdsire and a number of fiber boys. The fiber males are an excellent way to start if you want to produce fiber for spinning. They sell for around $500.00 each.
I love to breed for color, as you can tell form my two herdsires and new purchases. I love to work with natural hues. Browns, reds, grays and heathery colors are a spinners dream for me. Personally I would always rather work with natural colors than died fibers.
If you are interested in alpacas, and are considering starting a small herd feel free to contact us. We welcome farm visits and are glad to give people some hands on experience, and to mentor new alpaca owners.
